As new features are added to the Toronto Humber Valley District Website, those features will be added to these help pages in this section. Check this page every once and a while for additional features.
Search Function
This allows you to do a quick search of site content without leaving your current page. To view the full results of the search click 'More results' in the bottom corner of the quick results box. NOTE: Calendar Events and archived files are not included in your search query's when using this search function. To search for Calendar events, click the Calendar, switch the view to Events in the 'View:' drop down box, and use the provided box to search only Calendar events. To search for Archived files, click the archived news & events link under the THV District heading at top, and use the filter box to find older articles. Calendar events and archived files are not included in the site search to better help you find site content. If these items were included, you would have dozens of results that are identical in the case of recurring calendar events that would render the search function less helpful.
RSS Feeds - Syndication
Once subscribed to, for example the News & Events feed, every time we add an article to this area of the site you will be automatically informed of the content change, and be able to view the first part of the content in your Reader without visiting the website. If you see an article of interest, a link is provided that will bring you directly to the full article. This is a great way to stay informed of the most recent events and District news without having to constantly visit to see if there are changes.
So what is an RSS Feed exactly?RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and is used to describe the technology we use to create really easy to use feeds. A feed, also known as RSS feed, XML feed, syndicated content or web feed is frequently updated content like news or calendar events in our case published by this website.
Once you have subscribed to a feed, you will receive content from our site automatically as soon as we add it. Basically any RSS Reader will check for updated content at intervals that can be set by you. (e.g. every minute, hour, day, week etc..) Your reader checks for new content like your e-mail content checks for new mail, and delivers it to you. It's as simple as clicking the RSS feed link on our site, and then clicking the 'Subscribe to this feed' link at the top of the page.
Where do I get an RSS Reader? You most likely already have one. If you are using a modern browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox and many others, they come with a built in RSS Reader. The RSS Reader built into Internet Explorer 7 works just like the Favorites links to websites. Look for the Orange icon. You can always click help and search for RSS in your current browser. |
We all have many questions. Some have answers. If you have a question that you want to ask the webmaster or someone else in the district (e.g. How do I join?, How do I get Calendar Events added etc...), please view the Frequently Asked Questions area first by clicking here.
We are all busy, and would appreciate you finding your answer on this site first if it was already asked before contacting us. Thank you!
